Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to our website which we hope will be a useful source of information.

We know that choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make and we hope that by browsing our website you will decide that St. Hugh’s is your school of choice.

St Hugh’s Catholic Primary school is one of the largest schools in the area, currently serving approximately 650 pupils.  We are an extremely popular school with a long-standing excellent reputation.

At St. Hugh’s we aim for high standards in everything we do. We believe our school is warm, welcoming and inclusive; a place where all children are supported and encouraged to love learning and to develop their skills and talents. We are proud of our school with its happy and caring atmosphere and its tradition of hard work, academic achievement, sporting success, productions and parish community involvement.

The core National Curriculum is further enhanced through our vast extended curriculum and enrichment activities; including sporting opportunities, music tuition, specialist teaching, drama, productions and school trips.  Our aim is to develop your child’s full potential.  Our outcomes for both attainment and progress are well above average compared to national levels.

We serve the parish of St Hugh and St John and our close connections ensure that your child is supported throughout their faith journey as well as their educational journey.  Our Parish Priests, Fr Pat and Fr Tomasz form an integral part of our school.

We were delighted to receive an ‘Outstanding’ judgement in our most recent Denomination Inspection in March 2019. The inspectors stated ‘The extremely strong relationship between home, school and parish is valued by parents, pupils and staff. Pupils talk about ‘a sense of community’ that ‘everyone has a friend’, and that ‘school rules are based on our faith.’

At the heart of all we do is Jesus, the greatest teacher of all. We foster an environment of love and forgiveness and encourage all our children to be the best that they can be by living out our school Mission Statement ‘Walking in the footsteps of Jesus, growing in the light of his love’.

We are fortunate to feed to three Outstanding Secondary schools:  Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College, Loreto Grammar and St Ambrose College.  Trafford operates a selective system; many of our children and parents choose a grammar school education following their time at St Hugh’s.  Children attending our school take priority for admission to our feeder schools.

We are confident that the years spent by your child at St. Hugh’s will be happy and successful and we hope that when your children leave us to go on to secondary education, they will be equipped with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to meet any new challenges with confidence. But above all, we hope that their love of God, nurtured during their years with us, will sustain them throughout their lives.

We are never complacent and are continually looking for ways in which we can improve the school further. We welcome visits, so that you can see us in action and see for yourself why St. Hugh’s is such a special place to be.

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of such a fantastic school, our hard working staff and dedicated Governing Body, are devoted to the families of St. Hugh’s and relationships with our parents are positive and supportive.

We hope that you enjoy browsing through our school website and that you will keep visiting again and again.
